She received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. On June 6, 1978, she was united in marriage with David Kerr in Provo, Utah. Kathy practiced as a speech pathologist for many years. She was employed by Grant Wood Area Education Association for several years and also worked at the Harmony House in Waterloo and area nursing homes. After suffering a stroke in 2002, she continued another four years with work as a speech pathologist until retiring. She then became a full time farm wife and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Waverly Branch, enjoyed quilting, and especially enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, David of Tripoli, she is survived by seven children, Karina Kerr of Draper, Utah, Rand (Holley) Kerr of Bountiful, Utah, Kole Kerr of Spring, Texas, Trent Kerr of Draper, Utah, Brytnie (Jeremy) Carolan of Austin, Minnesota, Kahri Anne Kerr of New York, New York, and Derek (Rachel) Kerr of Farmington, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Braden, McKade, and Megan Kerr, Dawson, Ian, Lexy, and Allie Carolan, and Eamon, Brennen, and Afton Kerr; one sister, Joan Jensen of Logan Utah; and three brothers, Ray (Janice) Reid of Salem, Oregon, Bruce (Karri) Reid of Salt Lake City, and Mike Reid.

Kathleen’s parents preceded her in death.

No heart breaks alone for God is always near. When a prayer is whispered God is always there to hear. When sorrow's overwhelming, He comforts tenderly. A single tear never falls that he does not hear.(Psalms 65:2) Sorry for your loss.

David and family, our prayers and love are with you through this difficult time. Kathy will be missed by all who knew and loved her. “You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.” (David Harkins)
